The Fortress is the pathological extreme of Agency ($\text{M}$). It is the result of independence becoming isolation, invulnerability, and defense. It manifests as the inability to trust, receive, or let anyone in.

The Exile: The Betrayed Child

  • Wound: Trust was violated by those who should have protected.
  • Fear: The terror of dependency and being exploited.

Origin & Mechanism

The Fortress corresponds to Avoidant Attachment. It forms when needs were rejected or exploited. The psyche deactivates the attachment system to avoid the pain of unrequited need.
